AN ECHO IN TIME

I started an interesting book this week The Titans by "the godfather of historical novelist", John Jakes. I was attracted to the book since it begins just prior to the outbreak of the Civil War with the election of the Republican presidential candidate, Abraham Lincoln.

I am haunted by the quotes chosen by Jakes to open the first chapter:
"Physically speaking, we cannot separate. We cannot remove our respective sections from each other, nor build an impassable wall between them. A husband and wife may be divorced, and go out of the presence, and beyond the reach of each other, but the different parts of our country cannot do this....
"We are not enemies, but friends. We must not be enemies. Though passions may have strained, it must not break our bonds of affection. The mystic cords of memory, stretching from every battle-field and patriot grave, to every living heart and hearthstone, all over this broad land, will yet swell the chorus of the Union, when again touched, as surely they will be, by the better angels of our nature."

I sat up last night catching up on the week's busy political news and was sickened by what I saw on the Charlie Rose Show on PBS. He interviewed the editors and selected journalist for the New Yorker magazine, The Nation, and the New York Times.

I was disgusted as each of these literary "mind-moulders" described their hatred for the Bush Administration and the people who support them. It was some of the worst hate speech I have ever heard and it reinforced my belief that the Bush Administration will be tried as war criminals by the World Court if these people ever regain control of the US government.

I believe America is once again facing all out cultural anarchy by the extreme left regardless of the results of Tuesday's election. The leading intellectuals of the left are in all out rebellion against those of us who have God-centric worldviews. It was clearly articulated last night when Bush's faith-based initiatives were assigned the moral equivolence of the Islamofascism of 9/11.

Their "political hostilities" toward the Right are expressed in their words of intolerance and violence and I fear it is only a matter of time before they abandon words for weapons. I imploy you to do everything you can to get out the vote for President Bush next Tuesday. The future of our Christian way of life is literally on the line. Pray and vote.
