Hugh Hewitt asks, "What does Newsweek's story on Christmas tell us about MSM?" Here are a few of my thoughts:

I have to admit I haven't read the Newsweek story but I did read the Time Magazine article that is very similar. It seems both articles approach the Nativity Story in the same manner. The authors begin by claiming to be "believing" Christians. Then they present biased evidence that the facts about the Incarnation are suspect at best and blatant lies at worst. In other words, the Newsweek and Times articles are presented as one thing, and are, in fact, another.
The news magazine articles definitely demonstrate that the MSM continues to hide their liberal agenda to debunk Christian beliefs and values behind a veneer of objective analysis. In many ways, the "reality-based" belief system of the "progressive" worldview is similar to the Pharisees of the New Testament. Jesus was very critical of the Pharisees. He called them hypocrites, the term used to describe the mask-wearing actors of the day. He hated their hypocrisy and called them "white-washed tombs full of dead men's bones." Not very flattering, eh?

Just like the Hollywood actors of today playing parts in a play, the liberal media attempt to hide their real beliefs behind a facade of objective reporting. Because of that, they come across as inauthentic and deceptive, and the only people they fool are themselves. The Apostle Paul described them as "having the form of godliness, but denying the power thereof."
